does anyone else feel like video games are taking a quick turn into only being accessible by upper class streamers and shit rather than to actually be played by a wider audience, like ever since VR happened and it was outrageously inaccessible and i knew maybe one out of hundreds of IRL friends who had one to the point that everyone knew they had one and we would all schedule to hang out to get the chance to play VR and it just steadily became harder and harder to keep up with the gaming culture of dropping hundreds upon hundreds not just for the console but to consistently keep paying (you need online subs to play with your friends on everything, most people i know who turned to consoles specifically did so because it’s easier than buying a $1000+ PC but that is no longer the case) like… it’s depressing that video games are becoming an upper class hobby to watch from the sidelines because i can’t consistently pump out thousands to keep up with everything lol

plus the push to make video games all-online (getting rid of discs) allows companies to control the sale of games so over the next few years you’ll start seeing less and less of being able to find games for cheaper than they were on release since you can’t go through any third parties… i literally bought a ps2 to play old ps2 games on a while back because i knew it would be more worth it than dropping more and more and more money on a new console. i play my ps2 more than i play my switch because i can buy a game with SO MUCH CONTENT for like $5 meanwhile i have to pay a monthly subscription to so much as look at my switch… i can’t even play stardew valley, which i bought online since there’s no disc for it on switch, with my boyfriend sitting right next to me unless i have the online subscription afaik.
